Herpes - The Homeopathic Treatment

Dr Francesca Swainston, homeopathic doctor, author and well-known pioneer of natural medicine talks about herpes, an insidious infection for which there is no known cure and once contracted stays with the patient for life.

The herpes virus sets up home in the nervous system, in the ganglia, which are nodes containing the cell bodies of the nerves that transmit messages to and from all parts of the body. The visible effects of a herpes infection may be minor, such as fever blisters or vesicular eruptions around the genitals or eyes, but the long-term negative effects are much more serious and profound, because it is the vital nervous system that these viruses damage.

Homeopathic treatment will speed up the primary infection resolution and also help to prevent further painful manifestations of the infection. The primary infection, if not treated well, can cause considerable damage such as ulceration and scarring and sometimes the nerve pain remains long after the visible symptoms have disappeared.

At the beginning of the infection, during the acute inflammatory painful stage use the selected remedy hourly for 3 hours. Once improvement is experienced, give the remedy twice times daily for 1 week, then once a week for 4 weeks.

If treating a chronic condition, give the remedy twice daily for 2 days and if no improvement, change the remedy. If there is improvement, continue the remedy once a day at night for 1 week. Stop the remedy and only repeat as a single dose if symptoms get worse. If improvement stops, find a remedy that is more suited to the whole symptom picture at that time, and give as at the beginning of chronic treatment.

Use a 30c potency of the remedy. However, if you cannot get the 30c use any potency of the remedy that is available.
