Lupus - The Homeopathic Treatment

Dr Francesca Swainston, homeopathic doctor, author and well-known pioneer of natural medicine talks about Lupus and the facial disfigurement of a systemic auto-immune condition, for which conventional medicine can do little as the cause is unknown and there is no conventional cure.

The signature mark of Lupus is a red inflamed butterfly or saddle shaped red inflamed eruption on the face across the cheeks and nose, sometimes also incorporating the forehead. This comes and goes as the disease goes through periods of aggravation and quiescence. Each person experiences their own unique combination of auto-immune symptoms, so no two cases are alike except for the butterfly facial eruption which occurs in around 50% of patients.

In all cases of Lupus the whole symptom picture needs to be taken into account and the remedy given accordingly. Commonly patients with Lupus experience most commonly kidney disorders and also joint pains, fever, swollen glands, loss of circulation in fingers or toes, seizures, muscle pain, hydrothorax with lung and heart involvement. As improvement takes place, acute conditions can arise, for which the acute remedy needs to be given. After the acute condition subsides re-look at the whole symptom picture and prescribe accordingly.

Lupus is an auto-immune condition which means that many different illnesses can develop in a person with Lupus and as the patient progresses during treatment the focus of the weakness may shift and so the remedy needs to be adapted to follow the shift. The key to selecting the correct remedy are the mental and emotional or unusual symptoms.

There is faster resolution and improvement in health when the remedy is changed to match the developmental symptoms of self-healing in the patient.
